This was my first McEwan. I don't know what lead me to like it to be honest it has the recipe for being the most boring book in the world which isn't much of a recommendation I'm sure.
I guess in part I am glad I read this one first rather then Atonement otherwise I think I would have come out of that expecting more like that.
McEwan's an awesome writer of the English language - I think often he lacks a decent plot or an imaginative imagination. However, his writing is simply beautiful and he manages it in such a way that it does not become so high-brow literary that it feels as if he's trying to prove he is somehow better then you are. You can enjoy his writing, but the story beneath it is hit and miss.
